Using a Line Manager / CPD Coordinator login the nominated user of the system would have access and manage records for the group/school. The user can view the needs identified for each group/school in the training needs browse by selecting the view button against the group/school in the list. From here they can identify new needs by adding them into the browse or drill down to view details of the training needs identified during previous training needs analysis reviews.
Need Details
Details of a Training Need are broken down in to a series of customisable and reportable categories. The Training Area and Specific Area define the subject of the training need. This could relate to the business plan or school development plan. This can be a useful way of maintaining a structured approach to training and needs. The Level can be used to identify whether the need is for basic or advanced information or it could categorise the skill level of the people who require it. A Training Significance can be given to identify what the training need is intended to improve, whether it focuses on business requirements or professional development. Different levels of urgency can be assigned to needs allowing the administrators to schedule training based on the greater needs focussing resources on immediate requirements. It can be useful to record where the need was identified, whether it was during an appraisal meeting or if it is part of a development plan, this is specified in the Process field.
The final categorisation is the Status which identifies whether the need has been addressed, whether training is scheduled, if the need is satisfied and generally the progress toward it being satisfied. Each of these categories is completely definable so the needs can be specified in the exact manner required by the organisation.
The number of people intended to receive training for the need is identified in the Planned Number field. More specific details about the need can be entered into the Notes field.
Skills and Courses
Along with the general details of training needs, there is also the ability to identify specific qualifications, competencies and courses which staff have a requirement to obtain as part of the need. Where there may be the need for a group of staff who all need first aid training, a first aider’s qualification could be attached against the Training Needs rather than the attendance onto a particular training course on first aid.
Any qualifications or competencies which are identified as being required could a basic first aid competencies such as applying bandages and slings and performing CPR.
How are these Group/School Needs utilised with SDMS Staff Development

The information which is collected for each group/school can be inherited down to each of the member within the group/school so that each person individual records as populated. So should a new training need whether all staff need to become competent in a particular skill this can be recorded as a group/school need and then donated to the staff.
